Commission for Europe. The incumbent works under the general supervision of the
Chief of Section.

Responsibilities

|
Within delegated authority,
the Statistician will be responsible for the following duties:
- Organizes, designs, plans and carries out the collection, evaluation, analysis, compilation and dissemination of statistical data in the area of national accounts and other economic statistics including purchasing power parities, short-term economic statistics, globalization and seasonal adjustment by selecting methods of data collection, selecting and implementing methods for checking collected data, and selecting and implementing appropriate methods for data processing for incorporation into databases. - Participates in work on implementation of the System of National Accounts (SNA) in the South East European (SEE) and East European, Caucasus and Central Asian (EECCA) countries and provides assistance and training to experts. - Participates in the development, implementation and management of the statistical database and represents the Section in the Database Coordination Group. - Provides training and technical support on data collection programmes, country practices and other related information. - Participates in the development or revision of international standards on national accounts and related economic statistics, on statistical concepts, definitions and classifications by performing methodological research. - Prepares substantial inputs and draft technical documents for international, intergovernmental and expert group meetings and assists in drafting relevant reports. - Organizes and participates in seminars, working groups and expert meetings as a technical resource person. - Guides, trains and supervises Statistical Assistants in the regular data work on national accounts, economic statistics and seasonal adjustment. - Performs other duties as assigned. | |||||||

economic statistics, particularly of the System of National Accounts. In-depth
knowledge of international guidelines related to globalization and its impact on
economic statistics and of methodologies related to key business and short-term
statistics. Knowledge of the national accounts practices in the ECE region,
particularly EECCA and SEE countries. Knowledge of statistical principles and
practices. Ability to conduct independent research and analysis. Ability to

Education

Advanced university degree
(Master’s degree or equivalent) in statistics, mathematics, economics, sociology
or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with
qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university
degree.

Work Experience
| |||||||
|
| |||||||
|
A minimum of five years of
progressively responsible experience in national accounts and economic
statistics from a national or international organization in the ECE region;
Experience in working on national accounts with the EECCA and SEE countries;
Experience with data sources and their aggregation into economic statistics
indicators and seasonal adjustments. Experience in management and development of
statistical database and in servicing intergovernmental meetings.

Languages

Fluency in spoken and written
English and good writing skills are essential. Knowledge of Russian is an
advantage.
