Job Purpose:

To provide the leadership, direction and coordination of activities for the Equity Investment Division. Take the day-to-day operational decisions, ensuring the Division achieves its results and that it fully contributes to the delivery of the Islamic Financial Services Industry Department goals.
To manage and develop the current IDB equity portfolio in other companies

  • Participate in the development of the Islamic Financial Services Department strategy, budget and business planning processes
  • Create and implement actionable Equity Investment Division short to medium term operational plans and budgets with operational KPIs linked to the Department strategy
  • Co-ordinate the Equity Investment Division's activities so that it effectively utilises its resources, manages its priorities, and is able to be both responsive and proactive
  • Manage, monitor and evaluate the Equity Investment Division's on-going performance and quality of its outputs and services, identifying and initiating actions for improvement and innovation
  • Build and develop productive inter-Divisional working relationships within IDB Group and with external partners for joint working and knowledge sharing
  • Provide regular management reports with analysis and comment on Equity Investment Divisional performance and results
  • Oversee the management of the IDB portfolio of equity investments in Islamic financial institutions and other sectors
  • Review the portfolio strategy to develop a solid understanding of the broader investment, settlement and risk management issues, and strategies of the Bank
  • Develop equity investment instruments in compliance with Sharia principles and obtain approval from the Management/Board of Executive Directors
  • Review processes & procedures in the Equity Investment Division & recommend changes / new processes to ensure compliance with regulation / market competitiveness
  • Obtain necessary approvals and guide the Investments team in their implementation
  • Restructure and rehabilitate the equity companies and financial institutions.
  • Actively identify new investment opportunities across the whole range of Islamic financial institutions.
  • Oversee equity investments in new Islamic financial institutions to ensure their compliance with the Sharia and advise them on strategy; monitor their business performance and recommend appropriate changes to business strategy and / or operations to ensure that their performance meets the Bank's expectations.
  • Ensure complete and comprehensive documentation for all investment transactions
  • Determine funds requirement and coordinate with the Bank's Treasurer to ensure availability of funds to execute transaction
  • Ensure the availability of the necessary resources to support marketing activities of other Group units
  • Submit periodic reports to Management and Board of Executive Directors on the performance of equity portfolios, including the adoption of corporate governance best practices
  • Coordinate and manage the Bank's negotiations with the parties to investment and conclude transaction
  • Act as the focal point in promoting the rehabilitation and restructuring of entities in which IDB is a shareholder, in collaboration with other shareholders
  • Drive the adoption of corporate governance, best practices and listing of unlisted companies in IDB's portfolio
  • Generate commitment, motivation and enthusiasm to Equity Investment Division goals, and guide Division members through periods of change or uncertainly
  • Provide clear direction, prioritise tasks, assign and delegate responsibility and monitor the workflow
  • Plan, manage and review individual performance and provide regular feedback, development and coaching, taking prompt action where necessary
  • Provide opportunities for Equity Investment Division members to suggest, participate in and contribute to improvement, innovation and knowledge sharing initiatives
  • Ensure the Equity Investment Division complies with IDB's policies, processes, practices and systems.
Qualification & Experience:
  • 8-10 years experience in investment banking (M&A) / investment research / fund management, with at least 5 years in a senior role.
  • Detailed knowledge of Islamic Financing (investments) required. Experience in Islamic Finance (specializing in Islamic Investments) required.
  • Good command of Arabic and English. French language would be an advantage.
  • Masters degree in Business Administration / Finance / Economics
  • Financial analysis, modelling and forecasting
